WHO WE ARE

We are a statewide, non-profit organization comprised of commercial and non-commercial Alternative Dispute Resolution (“ADR”) neutrals, providers and educators. Our members range from the largest ADR organizations to individual practitioners and non-profit community dispute resolution programs. Our membership also includes organizations and individuals who use ADR services and want to preserve ADR as an accessible, efficient, and effective means of dispute resolution.

CDRC’s mission is to:

  1. Develop, support, and influence legislation and public policies promoting effective and accessible conflict resolution services.

  2. Promote high standards of conduct.

  3. Provide a forum for building consensus and implementing principles and policies affecting the practice of dispute resolution.

Our Web Site Contents

On this web site you will find many resources regarding the status of the practice of ADR in California, what we see on the horizon, what we have done in the past to protect ADR, and ways you can get involved.

From the browser bar on the left, you can choose to review CDRC’s History, look at pending and passed Legislation, and review CDRC’s Dispute Resolution Principles and Standards of Practice. You will also find a list of our volunteer Board of Directors, the Committees of the Board, many ADR Reports of note, and CDRC annual Membership information. You can even sign up or renew your membership on this site!

We also have a list of links for upcoming Programs and trainings, and a What’s New page to keep you updated on the latest developments in ADR. If you have any comments for us, we would love to hear from you. Go to our Comments page and send us an email. Your input is very important to CDRC’s success.

Our History

CDRC was incorporated in early 1994 after two years of statewide consensus building conferences attended by leading practitioners, commercial and non-profit organizations, community volunteers, and educational institutions. For more detailed information on the founding of CDRC, please see our page entitled History of CDRC.

CDRC is the voice of ADR in Sacramento. Through our widely experienced membership and our registered lobbyist, Donne Brownsey, we provide the legislature with informed opinions on the merits of proposed legislation affecting dispute resolution.

Our opinions are guided by CDRC’s Dispute Resolution Principles which were adopted as the philosophical underpinnings of the organization in 1995. In general, we seek to influence legislators in a way that preserves the availability, quality, and confidentiality of alternative dispute resolution. (See the legislative section of this website for information on current legislation.)
